Between 2008 and 2010, I embarked on a journey to capture the essence of Cork City—a place where ancient history meets the rhythm of a modern European city. Through the lens of my camera and the timeless medium of black and white photography, this project became more than a visual collection; it became a portrait of an Irish city caught in a moment of transition.
Cork, with its winding streets, vibrant markets, and echoes of centuries past, reveals itself in layers. Each frame tells a story of resilience, community, and change, reflecting the soul of a city deeply rooted in its heritage while embracing the modernity of the 21st century.
As the world continues to evolve, this two-year window has only grown more poignant, offering a unique glimpse into a time and place now slightly removed from the present. A portrait of a city stands as a celebration of the city’s character, a reminder of its history, and a testament to the enduring power of photography to freeze moments that resonate long after they’ve passed.
